I'm back!

I confess. I've been a lazy photographer. As a matter of fact I've been feeling fairly uninspired for most of this year, but I do have a really good excuse. Or at least, I think it's good. I had a baby. I'm not sure why, but while my body was busy with the whole creation process, my mind just wasn't. So throughout my pregnancy I would occasoinally gaze lovingly at my camera and wish I had some great ideas of what to use it for. And that's about it.  But baby is here now (hooray!) and we are all starting to settle back into life (hooray again!).

The other day I was looking out my window and the sun caught the icicles just right and the motivation I was looking for in my last post (a *few* months ago...) settle back in too. Then my toddler needed to eat lunch. Sigh. But, don't worry. I managed to catch some good light during naptime the next day. So there you have it. Photography is as much about luck as anything. At least when you have to work around the kiddos.

Enough chit chat, here's the photos.

I am grateful for the return of motivation, for a little luck and for something to provide a mental break from the kid related stuff. A 15 minute break in my work day if you will.

What is your 15 minute break?

  1. I really like those icicle pictures! Very well done Katie. These days my 15 minutes is a rarity. As long as the children are awake, they have unending needs, or if I sit down, there is something in them that can't leave me alone. Mom MUST be either jumped on, or made to move again through some seemingly urgent request. One day soon I hope to get my paints and easel out again. I'm so glad you got your camera out for a few!

  2. Nice icicle shots. What was your shutter speed?

  3. Thanks guys.
Tracie, that is tough. I am still relishing naptime and I don't quite know what I'm going to do when that's over. Props to you for staying sane!

Dad, the first and the last were 1/1328, the second was 1/664, though, I have to give a disclaimer. I don't shoot in black and white ever because I feel like I can edit it to make it black and white, but I can't put the color back if it's not there. That being said, it means I mess with my lighting and contrast in post processing because just doing a straight conversion from color makes a pretty flat looking black and white photo. So, I'm not sure that those shutter speeds would have come out with the same results if I were shooting in black and white or if these images were straight off my card.

  4. beautiful photos - good eye for abstract detail - I wouldn't have thought of messing with contrast in my black and white conversions - now I'm going to have to find some time to play with photoshop again.

  5. I like the one with the drop of water just coming off of the icicle. Living in Rexburg DID have some finer moments!
