Focused

Well, the picture is focused. Still working on life. I tried to slow things down today and just give me and my thoughts some time. I suppose I was thinking of sleep because that's what happened. Sigh. Reflection was lost, but I must have needed the sleep.

Although I have technically put photography on the to do list now, it is one of those things that helps me focus. No, not the photos. My glasses help me do that. Seriously though, making photos gives me the chance to see things. I mean see things. Do you know what I mean? I love it when I find something lovely somewhere I've been hundreds of times before. All of a sudden something shows itself and I feel like I've just learned something new and something beautiful all at the same time.

So what helps you focus, or stay tuned in to life? Does cooking help you keep your cool? Singing? Running? What do you do?

  1. I found that I liked the unfocused one more than I thought I would. It has a painterly quality about it.

I recall how much music helped me when I was a young mother - not just any music, but primary songs and hymns. They seemed to keep me from being too selfish and crabby.

sleep is a good focus - I find that my thoughts about the things that are troubling or concerning to me are often most receptive to the spirit just as I am waking up. Of course that works the best when I am getting enough sleep so that I wake up gradually.

  2. I am the type of person that likes routine and order about my life. When my schedule was a lot fuller, I used to keep a day planner with a check list of all that I wanted to accomplish. Now I just make a mental note each evening as I am going to bed of what I need to do for the next day.

Regular exercise has helped me to feel balanced in my life and I have relied heavily on it to get those good endorphines going to chase away the blues. I find that I can keep my focus on life in general when I feel a physical sense of well-being.

Daily scripture reading also 'grounds me' for the day by helping me to remember the big picture.

When all else fails, I focus on chocolate!

  3. All of those are such good things. It seems as though I have tried them all at some point. (some are more lasting than others...i.e. not exercise. whoops.) But they all help. Maybe I should re-institute some things around here. (i.e. exercise)

Thanks for sharing! I love hearing from everyone! (especially my moms!)
